Nutritional Analysis
Body Sensors that can gather an array of physiological data and derived lifestyle information, such as energy expenditure (calories burned), duration of physical activity, number of steps, and sleep/wake states. Keep a log of your daily caloric intake for a minimum of 3 days. We provide a computerized printout of your nutrient intake along with your energy expenditure. Includes one ½ hour consultation. Keep it simple. Less Calories in, more calories out = weight loss!
The Body Sensors are not a gimmick. These are scientifically validated instruments used frequently and more commonly in the research and clinical setting. We are the first to have access to this technology in the area.

The metabolic cart is the most accurate method for determining the minimum amount of calories needed throughout the day (Resting Metabolic Rate). This test also determines percentage of fat and carbohydrates utilized at rest. A program will be designed to improve your body composition. During the personal training sessions we will educate you on proper form and technique while performing the recommended exercises and discuss any fitness related matters.

Maximal Oxygen Consumption (V02max) is the most amount of oxygen that the body can use during vigorous exercise. Knowing one’s VO2 max can help an athlete to understand his/her endurance capability. VO2 max is measured on a metabolic cart that analyzes breath for oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration. Blackstone Valley Human Performance measures V02max on the same equipment that is currently used at NASA, US Olympic Training Centers and numerous University Human Performance Labs worldwide, where accuracy is required. We measure VO2 on both the treadmill and bicycle. The VO2 test is a progressive test that increases in intensity with time. As the intensity increases, the body’s ability to extract and utilize oxygen increases until you reach your maximum workload.

Lactate Threshold testing is considered to be the single most important determinant of success in endurance related activities. BVHP measures Lactate Threshold using a portable lactate analyzer. An athlete will perform a graded exercise test on a bike/treadmill for a standard period of time while connected to the metabolic cart. Each exercise stage will increase in intensity, challenging the athlete’s energy systems. Blood samples, using a finger stick, will be taken at the end of each stage and analyzed for lactate concentration. Once we have collected enough data to construct a lactate curve, we pause the test, and allow the athlete to recover for a brief period. Following the recovery we attempt to bring the athlete to max by starting at the last workload and progressively increase the workload each minute until max is achieved or the athlete fatigues. If we do not reach a true max (certain criteria need to be met in order for it to be considered a true max), V02 max can be extrapolated from this data and estimated.

We follow established training principles and apply periodization theory that will maximize gains and reduce the potential for injury. Online coaching is sport specific and is intended for those athletes who seek a higher level of training for better athletic performance.
